Back home in the Cotswolds

Hello!

I hope you are well.....

I've not been around to write my blog for a while....it's been nearly a month!

I do have a good excuse though...

I've just returned from a fabulous holiday.......

I'm not going to tell you all about it straight away.....I thought I'd slip a few photos and clues into my next few posts to see if you can guess where we went......I've lots to tell you!

Back home to a colder climate.....today we went for an afternoon walk making the most of the sunshine.

Lots of beautiful animals about today :)

This pony had found a sunny spot in her field.....

Our neighbour's donkey was peeping at me.....

These two horses were well wrapped up against the cold wind......

Down at the canal, Mr and Mrs Duck....

Further restoration work has taken place on the old canal.......

.......including work on the footpaths.......

The sheep by the river were enjoying the dappled sunshine.....some were having an afternoon snooze...

Spencer played with his ball, letting it fall into the canal.......

and then fetching it again......

But we knew it would end in tears.....the ball floated in too far in.........

......and despite his efforts to retrieve it.......

(he hasn't learnt to swim yet!)

....poor Spencer lost his ball :(

He soon forgot about it though.......

The sheep were probably thinking, 'Silly dog...what a fuss about nothing'.....

These cattle were milling about....

The lonely pony was too far up the field today but the cheeky Belted Galloways were nearby......

...and the turtles were on the pavement!

It was so lovely to see all these animals.....

The Frozen Common

The start of last week was extremely cold.

Rather reluctantly, we left the warmth of the woodburner and ventured up on to the Common to give Spencer his daily scamper around.

Wrapped up in my winter coat (and several layers underneath), hat, gloves and my new cosy cowl, I prepared to brace myself against the icy blast.  I was ever so slightly surprised to find our familar walk looking even more beautiful than usual.

So much so that I hardly noticed the freezing temperatures!

I took some photos so I could share it with you.

Sunny Autumn Canal Walk

On Saturday morning, we woke up to sunshine and gorgeous blue skies.
Such a refreshing change to the grey, drizzly weather we have been experiencing in the last few days.

A perfect morning to take a walk down to the canal.....

Over on the other side of the Golden Valley, you can see the leaves starting to turn...

There's mistletoe up in that tree but I'm not going up there to fetch it!

I love the pretty (steep) path down towards the canal....

All dappled in the sunshine....

and crunchy Autumn leaves beneath our boots.....

The leaves have just started turning in one corner of this magnificent old tree....

We arrived at the old canal bridge.......

One side of the canal looked so pretty and sunny........

and the other side looked rather beautiful and mysterious under the Autumn sky....

We took the path along the overgrown canal......

Spencer always loves to explore and is partial to a paddle!

Restoration work is still progressing at Griffin Mill lock....

Then along to the next bridge.....

And back up the hill again.....

and along the lane......

....gorgeous red berries on the way.....

.......and back home......

For a warming lunch of salmon tray bake......

And homemade bread :)
